More Spring Inspired..

I've been felting quite a few tea cosies again recently :)  Here's a few pics
My latest (and current favourite :)
There are so many beautiful blackbirds strutting their stuff at the moment.. I just had to make one
The wings were embroidered then sewn on..
the tail is also embroidered to keep it nice and flat

A chicken with a rather showy, longer tail :)
I made some embroidered wildflower meadow trivets to compliment my
critter cosies.. you can't beat having felt beneath the pot too, really helps keep the heat in.
A March Hare - good for taller, slimmer pots :)
His ears were felted separately and sewn on after..
Lambs..
More lambs and chickens :)
Both of these chooks are in Australia now
And an owl :)
This morning I'm finishing off yet another lamb cosy :)  This one will have wildflowers embroidered around the base and is destined to be an Easter gift..
I didn't really realise how many cosies I was making until I looked back over the last couple months for this post..

Have a wonderful weekend.. and for those of you with little ones breaking up for the Easter holidays today - hope you have fun :)  My not so little one (15) breaks up today for 2 weeks.

EEeek I love these, and so can't decide which is my favourite , the blackbird or the hare. I have to admit I was never much a of a fan of tea cosies before, but Deborah, you have converted me! You have been so busy too x

So gorgeous...love the pads for under the teapot....excellent idea.
I have a question for you...have you ever had trouble with moths or moth larvae getting into your roving or a finished piece? I have a customer who bought a piece a few years ago and seems that something is eating it. I have read that moth large do this and was wondering if you have had any experience with either treating or preventing it?
I am going to try a spray made up of tea tree, neem, lavender and rosemary oil to see if it will help. Any input would be much appreciated!

Thank you all for your lovely comments :) xoxo

Ruthie, glad I've converted you to being a cosy lover :) x

Ah Kerry, sorry to hear about the moth problem! I'd guess they're the most likely culprits too.
I have actually been very lucky so far (touch wood - I really don't want moths!) Last summer I spotted a couple of eggs on a hat that was on a stand in the dining room, right next to an armchair which doesn't get sat in very often and had a felt throw pillow cover on it. Sure enough there were more eggs on the underside of the cushion. They like dark areas which don't get disturbed much. I was SO lucky to spot it right away, the eggs are like a grain of salt.. really tiny.
I used to work in museums, and the advise there for textiles with any kind of possible infestation was to double bag and freeze the item. Meanwhile I thoroughly vacuumed all the nooks and crannies and checked EVERYTHING to be sure there was nothing else around. I froze the felt for 72 hours, then warmed it up quickly, then back into the freezer for another 72 hours. After that i gave it a good shake outside, vacuumed it and washed it.. The last rinse I used Tantec Felt Finish which has essential oils to help repel stuff.
Your oil blend sounds good to me.. it should help repel 'em. I've never used anything like that on felt / fibre.. let me know how it goes. You can also buy moth repellent and moth killing strips off Amazon.. I've heard mixed reviews on them, some swear by them others have found them no help..
Good luck with it!

What a good idea to have a felt trivet - it would really help to keep the tea hot whilst brewing. I love the blackbird cosy and wouldn't it be great to be using it at the same time as listening to a blackbird's beautiful song? Now that the weather has improved and the windows are open longer, I often hear it.
