Workshops 2016

Workshops given in my home (Halesowen, West Midlands) either one-to-one or in groups of up to 3 people.  If you would like anything different please get in touch to discuss. 

Please bring a towel / towels, olive oil soap and your preferred method for distributing water (spray bottle, sprinkler bulb etc.  if you are new to felting and don't have one I will have something you can use).

I will ask for a deposit with your booking to cover the cost of materials.

FELT FOR BEGINNERS – 1 day / 10am-1pm

Make a small picture / patterned piece of felt, using merino fibre and your choice of textural surface design elements.

Materials:

200g merino fibre 
Selection of silk fibres / curly locks / prefelt

BubblewrapTulle

Tea and biscuits provided

HAT – 1 day / 10am-2pm 

Working with a resist to create a seamless felt hat – cloche or similar

Materials:

200g merino  
Scraps of lightweight silk fabric / silk fibres / curly locks for surface decoration

Foam floor underlay & bubblewrap
Tea and biscuits provided.. please bring a packed lunch

FINGERLESS GLOVES – 1 day / 10am-2pm

Working with a resists to create a pair of seamless felt fingerless gloves

Materials:

200g merino 

Silk fibres and curly locks for surface decoration

Foam floor underlay & bubblewrap

Tea and biscuits provided.. please bring a packed lunch

TEA COSY – 1 day / 10am-3pm

Working with resists to create a seamless felt teacosy.  Potential to use oddly shaped resists, and add inclusions (spikes, cords, beads etc)

Materials:

Please bring merino in your choice of colours – at least 100g (if you want a strongly coloured design bring 200g)

English 56s – 200g  - I get mine from World of Wool

Clean curly wool locks / silk fibres / prefelt / lightweight, loose weave silk or cotton fabrics

Foam floor underlay & bubblewrap  *I will provide these*

I decided not to include materials for this workshop as there are so many possibilities.  You will need to have an idea of your design beforehand and bring the necessary to create your outer design.. if you email me your ideas I will be happy to advise you.

BOOTS  -  1 day / 9am-4pm   -  some felting experience preferred

To make 1 pair of seamless boots, without soles.  We will talk about different methods for soling your boots later on at home, if you wish.

If you would like to learn to make seamless boots, but have no experience of making seamless items using resists I would suggest taking one of the other seamless felt workshops first, feel free to contact me to discuss.

Materials:

400g fibre                                                        

Foam floor underlay and bubblewrap                                                    

Be prepared to take shoes and socks off and felt the boots on your feet.. or bring a shoe last in the necessary size.  I have some lasts but can’t guarantee I’ll have the size you need or enough to go round.  This is the most physically demanding of the workshops.
