My inspiration.. this photo of Central Park that my cousin shared on Facebook a few weeks ago |
Starting to build a simple picture.. |
using merino fibre, and mawata silk hankies for snow shine |
Covered with tulle ready to start felting.. |
I also wanted to make some plain white felt so decided to make a bigger sheet than needed and use one corner for the picture.
cutting the picture section out - I decided to keep the bottom edge natural |
Fully felted, rinsed and dried |
Starting Free Machine Embroidery.. This one turned out NOT to be a bite sized project.. it took HOURS and hours |
I really wanted it to be finished at this point.. but my husband convinced me that it really did need some people in :) |
I'm glad I listened.. Gary was right! My fence is leaning the wrong way.. but I'm putting it down to artistic interpretation lol |
And the back.. BEFORE adding people and footprints in the snow |

Gorgeous! I must concur with Gary in that the people and footprints really add to the feel...I think the fence is fine...maybe it got knocked down by heavy snow!
Wow this is fantastic - fabulous details and the footprints in the snow are wonderful!
I'm really enjoying your sketching Deborah such amazing felty feasts!

This is amazing! I agree with your husband - those two persons were really missing. I especially love the footprints! :) Absoluetly stunning work! Haave a nice weekend, Lisa
Dear Deborah
Congratulations - this piece looks great and is a fantastic interpretation of the photo. The end piece was worth all those hours and you should be really proud of yourself.
Best wishes

You make such clean and neat sewing, both sides are very pretty. The simple black and white is beautiful.
Thank you all for your lovely comments, you've had me smiling from ear to ear with them :) xxx
Kerry, That's just what I said :) x
Ali I was really chuffed with the footprints.. that 'invisible' thread is great! x
I love the black and white. Your work is lovely, and the original photo is lovely too.
