Last week I set to making my first vest / jacket using Sally :)
My first step was to wrap Sally in cling film to protect her from the wet felt :) |
Laying out the inside decoration. Scraps of mawata silk hankies, strips of dark denim blue merino fibre and fine cotton yoke |
Outside decoration. Fine cotton sari fabric with prefelt circles, strips of merino fibre and a simple pattern 'drawn' on with the dark denim merino fibre. |
It was soooo much easier not having to use my own body to fit on :) |
I started felting sleeves.. but stupidly didn't realise that the rest of the bagged white fibre in my merino box .. actually wasn't the same as what I'd been using. A bit frustrating.. BUT my fibre order is due to arrive today and work can recommence :) I'm working on buttons too.. so, more to follow.
I've had a go at making myself some felting tools at pottery class.. brought 'em home from the last lesson but haven't used them yet.

Love the vest (so far) and I know what to ask for next Christmas...love your new tools! ;)
Perfect to put on a body form and good for shaping sometimes. The own made felting tools are great help. You made the beautiful tools.
Ahhhhhh : Sally looks great !
(it's never easy to find good fabric to use for Nuno .....)
Thanks girls 😀 xxx
Wonderful. I have some pottery felting stones too...I love how they work.
I used them for the first time a few days ago Kelly.. they do work well, glad I made 'em :) x
lovely...did you work the whole time on the model or did you take it off to begin with?
Enjoyed seeing your process of creating this beautiful jacket. Truly nice design and craftsmanship!
Luvswool
Thank you both :) xx
Kerry it was huge to begin with.. I worked it as a normal resist piece, just popping it on Sally when it was fairly well felted already for fittings, taking it off and on, working a bit more where needed till I was happy. It's certainly allowed a lot more shaping of the bust than I'd of got before.. I think patting it into shape and drying on the body really helped there Dx
