This is my new bag, that I finished making yesterday!
I was inspired by the lovely bags that Heather at Wool Love Functional Fibre Art made & blogged about a couple of months ago... at around the same time I felted a big flat piece, trying out my goodies from the Reenactors Market. I decided at the time that it was going to become a bag... but Ive only just gotten around to actually putting it together!
First of all I had to find just the right leather belt for the handles... a few weeks scouring local charity shops got that sorted, its a nice well worn brown leather one - about 1 3/4" wide; I cut it with a stanley knife down the length to make 2 handles. I didnt cut all the way to either end though, which made it easier to sew on (with my leather needle in my sewing machine).
And then there was the lining. Eventually I found a lovely piece of fabric while mooching through my moms stash; its from one of my nans dresses - not sure exactly how old it is, but I think its safe to say its vintage :o)
It has a nice zippy compartment & strong magnetic snap fastner
Today, Im dyeing a silk lap, impatiently checking whether the silk I dyed earlier this weeks dry yet...no! And photographing & preparing supply listings.
Have a good weekend folks - whatever you are doing... Im working at a pirate event on Sunday :o)

What a gorgeous bag - the colours are so lovely and vibrant. You have been so busy - those scarves are beautiful too from your last post. I managed to avoid a pirate carnival float last week as my boys are really too old for all that dressing up now - I was very relieved! xx
Wonderful bag Deborah, oh for your sewing skills!
Ooohh, the colors are wonderful! I love the shape and size of this bag. I also like the idea of cutting the strap but keeping the ends together. Since I would have never thought to do that I am glad all of you wonderfully creative people share your ideas! :)
:o) thanks girls - Im grinning from ear to ear reading these

I can't believe I missed this post!!!
WOW!!! It's GORGEOUS!!!
I'm in love with your zippered compartment-what a great idea...and the colors are spectacular! Yay, you!!!
I just found your site (I was looking for info. regarding leather soles for knitted slippers) and have to write to say how much I admire your work - and your ingenuity - AND recycling !
We always recycled - way before the term was invented: my dear Mother, who died 2 years back, was a wonderful craftswoman, and taught her three daughters to follow in her footsteps - well, and her son, in his own way. We have made clothes for our kids and then grandkids, as well as ourselves; upholstered; made curtains; made shelves, changed one piece of furniture into another etc etc.
I am now considering felting for the first time.
Your beautiful felted bag is terrific, I just wish my Mom was still here so that I could print off your page and send it her.
Thank you.
Kay
Hi Kay, thank you so much for your lovely comments! Oh I hope that you do try wet felting.. it is such fun and so very versatile. If you need any help / advice with felting give me a shout :)
